Scott William McFarland, 30, died Tuesday, Nov. 19, after a brief illness at Desert Samaritan Hospital in Mesa. He was born Sept. 26, 1966 in Tucson to Fred McFarland and Nelda (Seay) McFarland.
Mr. McFarland was a longtime Prescott-area resident having graduated from Prescott High School in 1984. He held a brown belt in karate, winning numerous trophies and awards for his efforts. He graduated from Northern Arizona University in December 1995 with a B. S. degree in Construction Management. He was president of Kappa Alpha Fraternity while at NAU. At the time of his death, he was employed as a project engineer by McCarthy Construction Co. of Tempe.
He was active in Make-A-Wish Foundation and organized the "Ride for Dreams" bicycle fundraiser in 1995. He was always willing to lend a hand with projects that needed to be done. He enjoyed helping people. He married Amy Thoene on June 18, 1994 in Phoenix.
Survivors include: his wife, Amy McFarland of Gilbert; parents, Fred and Nelda McFarland of Chino Valley; brother, Fred R. McFarland of Chino Valley; sisters, Suzan Crabtree of Prescott, Ginger McFarland of El Cajon, Calif., and Glena Donaghy of Trabuco Canyon, Calif.
Memorial services will be at 3 p.m. Thursday, at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church, 1500 W. Maryland in Phoenix. Rev. Philip E. Eaves will officiate. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Friday at the Chino Valley Cemetery on Road 2 South, west of Highway 89. Rev. Paul Crowell will officiate.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Scott McFarland Scholarship Fund, County Bank, Attn: Patty Jones, 102 W. Gurley St., Prescott, AZ 86301. Hansen Mortuary of Phoenix assisted with arrangements.
