In Memoriam.
Blanche Anderson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. Butler Anderson, was born and reared in Knox City. She was married to Thomas Arthur Alexander, son of R. K. Alexander, trainmaster of Milan, Mo., by Rev. R. R. Rhoads, minister of the Christian Church. Her brother, Hal, and lifelong friend, Miss Bertha Lord, were witnesses.
Mr. Alexander took his bride to West Des Moines, Ia. He was an engineer on the R. Island railroad. he preceded her in death. In her father's arms the beautiful baptismal services were conducted by the Rev. Thomas H. Tatlow, pastor of the Pesbyterian Church. In later years Blanche was beautiful, lovable and had a sweet and kind disposition. A friendship whom everyone esteemed. She was a fine musician, a graduate of the Knox City High School, a pupil of Synodical College, Fulton, Mo., with an A. B. degree of Drake University.
She taught in the West Des Moines school for fourteen years. She was a patient in the Methodist Hospital in Des Moines, Ia., for three months. When she moved to a convalescent home in West Des Moines, her pupils were standing in lines to see and greet her. She spoke to every little pupil and called by name. She had an understanding of children and they all loved her. Blanche was a faithful worker in the First Christian Church at West Des Moines. She was pianist, secretary, treasurer for twenty-seven consecutive years, and teacher of the Truth Seekers Ckass for twenty years. They all were in attendance to day their last good-bye.
She held offices in several organizations: Chapter C. J., Worthy Matron; P.E.O., pianist; American Legion, pianist; P.T.A., vice-president.
She died in her paternal home, surrounded by her friends and faithful Dr. J. R. Northcutt, just as the sun went down at 6:30 Sunday eve. The funeral was held in her beautiful home at Knox City, Tuesday, Nov. 17, at 3 o'clock. Rev. J. H. Coll gave a touching tribute, then called on Rev. Thomas Peppas of the First Christian Church, Grand Avenue, West Des Moines, who told of her endeavor, love and respect of the church, called her a gem, a bright gem taht will be sadly missed.
The beautiful son service was conducted by girlhood friends. the songs were her favorites. At the close of the service the beautiful casket with its lovely treasure was carried by loving hands to its resting place and was laid in the lot by her dear father, sister and brother in the Anderson lot. The floral offering was numerous and beautiful, showing love and appreciation of her friends, who held her in high esteem.
She leaves to mourn her departure her mother, brother, Hal, who was at her bedside constantly, her brother, Rob, and three nieces, Marylyn, Jean and Marjorie. One nephew, robert Burns Anderson, has no soft and safe berth in the war effort. His activity in the war would make a stirring story, but it must wait until this war is ended. There is also a foster brother, Billie Anderson Learned, of Iowa City, Ia., also many warm friends who will remember her kindness for many days to come.
The singers were: Miss Nellie Northcutt, Mrs. Karl Schempp, Roy Westcott and Joe Carter.
The pallbearers were: Frank Wolter, Karl Schempp, Archie Evertson, Richard Baker, Guy Strickler and Chester Eoff.
Relatives of Mrs. Anderson who attended were: Mr. and Mrs. Ed Mayers, Mr. and Mrs. John Harris, Mr. and Mrs. Reid Fitzpatrick, Arthur Young, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Harris and family, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Purdy and family, Mrs. Edith Taylor, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Cox and daughter, Dorothy, all nieces, nephews and cousins of Mrs. Anderson.

I will not say that she is dead;
She is just away.
With a cheery smile and a wave of the hand,
She wandered into an unknown land,
And left us dreaming how very fair
It need must be since she lingers there.
