Ernest Ellwood Murphey was born to Jane and Benjamin Franklin Murphey on Aug. 14, 1982 [sic] at the family homestead across the lake from Eagleville in Surprise Valley.

He was one of a family of 19 children, two sisters of whom survive him: Celia Murphey Nolan of Warnerview Convalescent Home and Ida Morgan of Redding.

On July 20, 1920, he married Susie Haase of Eagleville and they homesteaded land in Little High Rock until 1925, when they moved to a home in Eagleville where he lived until his retirement in 1946. Since that time he has lived in Cedarville.

He has been a member of Masonic Lodge 235 in Cedarville for 54 years.

In addition to his sisters, Mr Murphey is survived by his wife, Susie; daughter, Kathleen Murphey Benner of Cedarville; son, Lawrence Murphey of Fountain Valley, Ca.; 8 grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
