William Franklin Potter, 87, of Ottoman died on Tuesday, June 28, 2011. He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Lillian Dunaway Potter and son, Sgt. William Steven Potter, U.S. Army who was killed in action in Vietnam. He was born on August 6, 1923 son of the late James Robbie and Emily Lewis Potter.
Mr. Potter was an active and lifetime member of Corrottoman Baptist Church and a member of the Corrottoman Senior Citizens.
Surviving are a devoted daughter-in-law, Connie L. Kennedy of Ottoman; three grandchildren, Faith Kemp and husband, Johnny, Corrie Ashburn and husband, David Wayne, Luther Oliver and wife, Darlene; six great grandchildren, Wyatt and Logan Kemp, James, Brittany and Kelsi Ashburn and Rob Oliver; four sisters, Mary Bryant and Morgan Sanford of Lancaster, Naomi Urban of Kilmarnock and Virginia Stevens of Burgess. He was preceded in death by a sister, Fay P. Bryant and two brothers, J. R. Potter, Jr. and Louis Potter.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, June 30 at Corrottoman Baptist Church, Ottoman with Rev. David Cromer officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 29 at Currie Funeral Home, Kilmarnock.
