William Henry Limes was a private in the 168th OVI, Company "I" during the Civil War. Per his military records he served for 100 days as a substitute for Nathan Cory. He was engaged at the battle of Cynthiana, Kentucky June 11, 1864.

On June 2, 1884, he married Eliza Jane Ashenfelter. She died August 13, 1919 in Blanchester, Clinton County, Ohio. The couple were divorced at the time of her death. She was buried at the Prospect Cemetery in Highland County, Ohio. The couple were childless.
