Republican Governor of Colorado, 1921-1925. Won election with the support of and subsequently heavily influenced in office by the Ku Klux Klan. Afer leaving the governorship, he formed C. J. Morley & Company, an Indianapolis stock brokerage firm, which was soon found guilty of mail fraud by sending false statements through the U.S. mail to defraud its customers. He was indicted for twenty-one counts of mail fraud and served a prison term of five years in Leavenworth.
