He was the son of Jesse and Sarah Parker Walling. Immigrated to Texas in 1834.
Married Martha Ann Dorest in Nacogdoches Co, Texas on 30 Dec 1840.
Martha Dorest was born 1823 in Mississippi.
He and Martha had the following children;

1. Sallie Jane b. 27 May 1842
2. Nancy b. 1848
3. Jesse . b. May 1849 Cherokee Co, Texas
4. John D. b. 1853
5. William Preston b. 1861

**Military History**
On March 6, 1836, Jesse Walling enlisted as a private in Capt. Hayden S. Arnold's First Company in Col. Sidney Sherman's Second Regiment, Texas Volunteers, and took part in the battle of San Jacinto. His son Jonathan C. Walling was also a member of Sam Houston's army but was ill during the battle of San Jacinto and so remained with the baggage wagons at Harrisburg.
