US Congressman. A member of the Democratic Party, he served in the US House of Representatives from Louisiana's 2nd district for only four months, from December 1886 until March 1887. He attended local schools in Maury County, Tennessee and attended Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland, graduating in 1867. He then returned to the US and in 1878 was engaged in the commission business in New Orleans, Louisiana, where he was elected president twice to the New Orleans Produce Exchange. In December 1886 he was elected to fill the vacancy US Congressman Michael Hahn due to his death and finish out his congressional term, and was not a candidate for re-nomination. After his term expired, he returned to New Orleans and served as president of Consumers Ice Company until his death at the age of 48.
