William A. ORR was a farmer in Ohio. When he was born on August 29, 1806 in Ohio, his father, John, was 26 and his mother, Sarah Arnold, was 21. William’s birth date is calculated from his Illinois cenotaph, his state of birth is confirmed by 1850 US Census.

William A. Orr and Eliza A. Byers were married sometime between 1825 and 1830. The 1825 date is calculated assuming they were married when their unknown male child (listed in the 1830 US Census for Londonderry Township) was born. William appears to never have left Ohio and it is assumed they were married in Ohio – likely in Guernsey County. Although Guernsey began recording marriages in 1810, no marriage record has yet been found. There is an 1832 Londonderry Personal Tax record listing for both a William and an Elizabeth Orr who were paying taxes on livestock and other items.

William and Eliza had ten (or possibly eleven) children in 27 years:
1) UNKNOWN boy b.1821-1825 – d.1830-1840
2) John Orr b.1831 – d. 1896
3) Rev Perry O. Orr b.1833 – d. 1920
4) Sarah Orr b.1947 – d. UNKNOWN
5) Providence Orr b.1837 – d.1896
6) Elizabeth Orr b.1838 – d. UNKNOWN
7) William E. Orr Sr. b.1842 – d.1926
8) Phillip Orr b.1845 – d.1863
9) Keziah Orr b.1847 – d.1928
10) Melisse Orr b.1850 – d.1926
11) Armintha Orr b.1852 – d.1950

William died on 12 March 1860. The 1860 US Census for his wife Eliza and their children lists Eliza as a widow. There are two headstones for a William A. Orr – one in Antrim in Londonderry, Guernsey, Ohio, and this one in Bethesda Cemetery in Hillsdale, Rock Island, Illinois. Both of these have a death date of 12 March 1860 and both list his age at death as 53 years, 6 months, and 12 days. After his death, Eliza moves the family to Iowa sometime between 1860 and 1870. William possibly was buried in Guernsey with his family erecting a cenotaph headstone later in Illinois.

Further information is greatly appreciated.
