Mable Lowery Carson was the second child born to the union of Nathan and Emma Estes. She was born Mable Lavern Estes in Attala County, MS; on July 25, 1914, on the Smith Place.

She professed her love for Christ at an early age and was baptized at Mount Zion Baptist Church.

She attended and completed her elementary education in Attala County Schools and completed her high school education at the Sam Young School in Kosciusko, MS. Summer schools and extension programs were used extensively to complete her education. The colleges and universities Mable attended were Rust College, Tougaloo College, Jackson State College, Tuskegee Institute, and Mississippi State University. In 1956 she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Education and in 1972 received a Master of Science degree from Mississippi State University.

Mable began her teaching career at Big Spring School, a school founded by her ancestors. She also taught at Marble Rock, Buffalo, and other schools in Attala County, MS. For many years Mable taught at the Attala County Training School and North Side Elementary School in Kosciusko, MS; teaching fifth or sixth grade. She later became an elementary school librarian.

Mable enjoyed other affiliations in the church and community. After joining and becoming an active member of Wesley Methodist Church, she became a counselor for the Methodist Youth Fellowship and was an active member of the church choir. She was president of the Wesleyan Service Guild, which later became the United Methodist Women and remained for several years. Mable served as church secretary for many years and was secretary for the Wesley Charge Conference. She was a member of the National Council of Negro Women, The Brunch Club, and a member of the Natchez Trace Singers. For several years she served as secretary for the Attala County Retired Teachers' Association.

Because of her concern regarding the hesitancy of established banks in lending money to black people, Mable founded a credit union for blacks, which flourished for several years.

In October 1932 Mable married Butler Adams. Two children were born to this union, Helen Ruth and Juanita. Butler died at an early age in December 1941. Mable married Ruben Lowery, a widower, who had a daughter, Mary Alice, by a previous marriage. Mable and Ruben lived together happily until his death in 1979. In April 1992 Mable married Rev. Charles J. Carson, minister and founder of Hays Creek Baptist Church in Winona, Mississippi. They enjoyed worshipping and traveling together until he passed in 1996. Mable returned to Kosciusko and rejoined Wesley United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School until her health began to fail.

Mable Lowery Carson made her transition peacefully on Sunday, August 9, 2009.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Nathan and Emma Estes; two daughters, Helen R. Hill, and Mary Alice Bates; a son-in-law, Roy C. Hill, Sr.; three brothers, Governor Estes, Wilson Estes, and Earl Dew Estes; and a grandson, Ruben Bell.

She leaves to cherish her memories her daughters, Juanita Speight of Kosciusko, MS; and Carolyn Lattimore of Winona, MS; grandchildren, Roy C. Hill, II, and Richard B.
