Dorian was born December 7, 1947 in Minot, ND, the son of Roy and Mabel (Amerine) Hoiland. He was raised and educated in Minot and graduated from Minot High School. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1965 and served in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged in 1968 and returned to Minot.
On June 5, 1969, he married Sheila Laughridge at Mount Olive Lutheran Church in Minot. They made their home in Burlington where they raised their family. He started his apprenticeship at Bausch and Laumb Optical in Minot, where he continued to work as an optician for 25 years. He then went to work at Herberger's in Dakota Square Mall as the head of maintenance where he worked for 15 years until ill health forced him to retire.
Ole loved his family and his passion was his grandchildren. He enjoyed every moment he spent with them. He also loved doing carpentry work and could build or fix anything. He liked gardening and loved watching old western movies. He and his wife Sheila liked to spend time with their kids camping while they were growing up.
Survivors: Wife, Sheila, Burlington; children, Tammy (Robert) Krodel, Williston, Paul (Crystal) Hoiland, Bismarck and Keri (Kit) Thorson, Williston; seven grandchildren, Jesse Hoiland, Dillon Krodel, Deion Thorson, Paige Krodel, Peyton Thorson, Amber Hoiland and Ostyn Hoiland; mother, Mabel Hoiland, Minot; brothers and sister, Francis (Angie) Hoiland of Washington State, Loren Hoiland, Minot, Kenneth (Dixie) Hoiland of Maryland, Roger Hoiland and Peggy (Ray) Mahle, all of South Dakota and Eldon (Janice) Hoiland, Williston; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins survive.
Ole was preceded in death by his father, Roy Hoiland; brother, Russell Hoiland; sister, Judy Dintelman; a nephew, Shane Hoiland and a niece, Lisa Mahle.
