Following the survey, he founded the Abbott Institute which became a well know and quality school for the education of the area children. Over time, the school changed to a Baptist Academy and later the same land become the land now occupied by the Maynard High School.
In addition to the donation of land for the school, he donated land to the three churches then in Maynard which would have been a Baptist Church, Church of Christ, and Methodists. He also donated the land for the Maynard Cemetery.
He was also a valued businessman and owned and operated large farming interests, mills, and gins, thus employing many residents with work.
