1850 Federal census, 1856 Iowa census, and 1870 Federal census indicated he was born in Indiana. The 1860 Federal, 1880 Federal censuses and 1885 Nebraska census indicated he was born in Kentucky.

John Clark and Mary Jane Kendall were married on February 19, 1835 in Putnam County, Indiana, by Benjamin Jones, Minister of the Gospel.

John Clark "of Cass County, Iowa" purchased 160 acres in section 13, township 1 north, range 6 east in Gage County, Nebr., in October 1880. The same property was mortgaged that month by John and Mary Jane Clark. The property was sold by John Clark, widower, in October 1891. The Clark land was in the same section as a portion of Big Indian State Management Area, four miles south and one mile west of Wymore.

Several family trees on Ancestry give a middle name of Franklin. That element of his name does not appear in the censuses, marriage records, etc. Thank you to anyone who can shed light on his middle name.

The 1880 census recorded his parents were both born in Kentucky.

Daughters Mary and Ruth (born 1840) are listed with Illinois as birthplace in 1850 census. Some family trees state they were born in Indiana. The 1860, 1870, and 1880 censuses list Illinois as birthplace for Ruth.

It is believed that Jacob Clark (1815-1892) of Greene County, Indiana [memorial 17305656 ] is a brother of John Clark (d. 1899) based on multiple DNA matches between their descendants.
