Nicole Patterson's mother was never crazy about her daughter going out to the clubs--too much craziness, too much violence--but she had a particularly bad feeling Sunday night.
"You shouldn't go out tonight," Sheretta Pennington told her 22-year-old daughter, according to Sheretta's husband, Andre.
"It'll be OK," Nicole replied. "Leave me the grocery list. I'll do the shopping tomorrow."
The list stayed on the counter. And Sheretta Pennington confirmed her worst fears. Her daughter, she learned Monday morning, was among the 21 people killed in the stampede at the Epitome "E2" nightclub.

For most of Monday, Chicago native Patterson was "Jane Doe," unidentified until late in the day. But to her family she was anything but a faceless victim.
"She loved life," Andre Pennington said. "She loved dancing. She loved that more than anything."
On Monday, it was those boots--and a "Nikki'' tattoo--that helped the family positively identify her. She Is Survived By her birth father Michael Patterson, mother, her 18-year-old brother, Maurice, and 14-year-old sister, Latisha.
