"WEIR Sr., Robert Allan, born March 1, 1924, in Grenada, Miss., died March 21, 2008, in Knoxville. He was a member of the Class of 1946 at the U.S. Naval Academy, Annapolis, and proudly served in the U.S. Navy for 22 years. While serving, he was recognized as an expert pistol marksman. Following his navy retirement, Dr. Weir received his doctorate in finance at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. He came to The University of Tennessee where he was a professor until his retirement in 1989. He was a lifelong member of the Episcopal Church and member of the U.S. Navy Retired Officers Club. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Jennifer Weir Shuman. His survivors include his wife of 62 years, Millicent; son and daughter-in-law, Robert A. Jr. and Cynthia Weir of Knoxville; grandchildren, Liana Weatherford, Stephen Shuman and Robert A. Weir III; sister-in-law, Thelma (Mrs. Saxton A.) Weir of Jacksonville, Fla.; and nieces and nephews. Family and friends met at Tennessee Veterans Cemetery Tuesday for an graveside service with full military honors. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Patricia Neal Rehabilitation Center, 1901 Clinch Ave., Knoxville, TN 37916 or East Tennessee Veterans Memorial Assoc., 401 Henley St., Knoxville, TN 37902. born March 1, 1924 in Grenada, MS died March 21, 2008 in Knoxville. He was a member of the Class of 1946 at the U.S. Naval Academy, Annapolis and proudly served in the U.S. Navy for 22 years. WEIR, MILLICENT W. - age 84, of West Knoxville, died Monday, May 5, 2008 at St. Mary's Residential Hospice Center. A longtime Knox County school teacher, Mrs. Weir taught primarily math and science at Farragut and Doyle High Schools. She was a member of Alpha Zeta Delta Sorority. She loved to play Dominos, Bridge, and Hearts and Spades, and was a dog lover. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Robert Allan Weir, Sr. and daughter, Jennifer Weir Shuman. Her survivors include her son, Robert A. Weir, Jr. and wife, Cynthia of Knoxville; grandchildren, Liana Weatherford of Knoxville, Stephen Shuman of Knoxville, and Robert A. Weir III of New York; sisters-in-law, Mary E. Wright of Denver, NC and Thelma Weir of Jacksonville, FL; and several nieces and nephews. Family and friends will meet at Tennessee Veterans' Cemetery Wednesday for a 9:30 A.M. graveside service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 2200 Sutherland Ave., Suite 102, Knoxville, TN 37919 or St. Mary's Residential Hospice Center, 7447 Andersonville Pike, Knoxville, TN 37938.
