Michael Brian Asher
Services were held at Canyon Hills Assembly of God Church, 7001 Auburn Street, at 10 a.m. on May 31, 2001 for Michael Brian Asher of Tehachapi, Calif. Brian and his wife, Cathi, would have celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary on that day.
Born on August 2, 1960, Brian passed away on May 28, 2001 at his home after a courageous battle against cancer.
Brian had been in law enforcement for 15 years, most recently as a detention officer Sergeant employed by the Kern County Sheriffs Department. He spent 12 years as a volunteer level 1 Reserve Deputy Sheriff Lieutenant. He was a member of the American Jail Association; Director, Bargaining Team Member and Shop Steward for the Central California Association of Public Employees; member and bargaining team member of the Central California Organization of Public Safety Employees; past delegate of the Central Labor Council; past member of the Central California Training Officers Association; past president, vice president and founding member of the Kern County Correctional Officers Association; member, past vice president, special projects Lieutenant and committee chairman of the Kern County Sheriffs Reserve, Inc.; member of the Kern County Sheriffs Benefit Association; past member of the Northern California Correctional Officers Association; past international delegate of the Ser!
vice International Union; and served as chairman of the Stampede Days Rodeo for ten years.
Survivors include his wife, Cathi; son, Brandon and daughter, Lindsay, all of Tehachapi; parents, Frances Brandon, and Bill Wihl of Roseville, Mike Asher of Bakersfield, Mike and Carol Brandon of Perris and Barbara Asher of Bakersfield; sisters, Kelly Alvarez and husband Willie of Oceano, Rhonda Hawkins and husband Jeff of Roseville, and Franci Wihl of Sacramento; brothers, Will Brandon and wife Lara of Sacramento, and Steve Wihl of Roseville; in-laws, Wes and Ginny Kitchen of Tehachapi; sister-in-law, Lisa Roberts and husband David of Bakersfield; grandmother, Marjorie Brandon of Visalia; and his loving dog, Regis.
Pallbearers were his son, Brandon Asher, Kevin Wright, Jim Albitre, Doug King, Paul Kent and Dave Weigarid.
The Reverend John M. Gallagan, Vicar of St. Judes.in the Mountains Episcopal Church in Tehachapi, officiated and interment followed in Greenlawn Memorial Park, 3700 River Blvd.
Visitation was on May 30, 2001 from 3 p.m. until 9 p.m. at Greenlawn Mortuary, 3700 River Blvd. Arrangements made by Greenlawn Mortuary Funeral Directors.
