U.S. Congressman. Graduating from the Louisiana State University, in 1914, he was a teacher in the rural schools of Louisiana, was principal of the Georgetown High School, (1914-15), Verda High School, (1915-17) and superintendent of Winn Parish schools (1917-22). He then studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1922, practice law in Winnfield, Louisiana and served as City Attorney of Winnfield. In 1937, he was elected as a Democrat to the Seventy-fifth Congress and to the next seven succeeding Congresses, serving until 1953. Not a candidate for re-nomination, he lived in retirement until his death at age 78. In 1994, he was posthumously inducted into the Louisiana Political Hall of Fame and the municipal building in Winnfield is named in his honor.
