Francis Marion Dudley, born Feb. 2, 1983 in Welch, OK, (Indian Territory) to James D. and Mary Gwinn Dudley (1 of 5 children, all deceased), James, Paul, Dick and Ruth McIntire. Mr Dudley grew up in the northeast Oklahoma area, Welch and Blue Jacket and southeast Kansas. He achieved elementary and secondary education by attending subscription schools .

He worked as station agent and telegrapher in several towns in the area for the Missouri-Kansas & Texas Railroad Co (KATY). Mr Dudley attended the University of Missouri. He graduated from the University of Oklahoma Law School in 1936 with a Bachelor of Laws Degree (LLB). Admitted to the Bar of the State of Oklahoma in 1916, member of the Bar of the US Supreme Court before which he appeared on several occasions, member of the American Bar Association, established a law practice in Coalgate, OK, from 1916-1917 and from 1919 to 1922. He moved to Ardmore in 1922 and entered the private practice of law there from 1922-1925. He was elected county attorney for Carter County and served in this office from 1925-1929.

He came to Oklahoma City in 1929 when he was appointed Assistant Attorney General for the State of Oklahoma. He served in this position from 1929 to 1934 and again from 1936 to 1939. From 1934-1936 he served as Assistant US Attorney for the Western District of Oklahoma. He was appointed by the Governor of the State of Oklahoma as General Council for the Oklahoma State Tax Commission. He held this position from 1939-1942. In 1942 he left public service and entered the private practice of law again of a firm which later bore the name of "Cochran, Dudley, Fowler; Rucks, Baker and Jopling." He remained in the private practice of law until 1967 when he retired.

While attending the University of Oklahoma he met and later married Ruth Sullivan (of Ardmore, OK) on Dec. 20, 1920 (deceased March 27, 1961); two children from the marriage, Ruth Eugenia and Charles. He married Jessie R. Webb on November 21, 1969. During World War I he joined the US Army and served as a 2nd LT in the 64th Infantry, US Expeditionary Forces in France. A member of First Baptist Church of Oklahoma City. Member of the Masonic Order to the 32nd degree Scottish Rites, Coalgate Lodge, and the Indian Consistory, McAlester, OK.

He is survived by his wife, Jessie; daughter, Ruth Schmidt, OKC; son, Charles, OKC; 7 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Services will be at 11 am Tuesday in Hahn-Cook, Street & Draper Chapel with interment in Rose Hill Cemetery.
