RANGER- Lelia L. Foster, 81, of Ranger passed from this life surrounded by her family on Wednesday June 30, 2004 in Abilene. Services were held Saturday, July 3, 2004 at 10 a.m. at Eastside Baptist Church with Rev. Jerry Speer officiating. Burial was at 1 p.m. at Putnam Cemetery in Putnam under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home of Ranger.
Mrs. Foster was born on March 26, 1923 in Putnam, TX to John M. and Mary Leota (Alred) Ramsey. She married Delbert Duglas Foster in December 19, 1942 in Baird. During WWII she worked at numerous Naval shipyards. She was employed at several restaurants in the area as a cook. She was well known for her ability to cook and her yeast bread, pecan pies, and Mississippi mud cakes, she was always thoughtful of others and cooked for the sick. She was an avid gardener, broke horses, was a member of the Humane Society, Covenant House of Houston, and Eastside Baptist Church.
Mrs. Foster is survived by her husband D.D. Foster of Ranger; daughter, Georgia Lou and Harvey James Collins of Ranger; sons, Carl D. Foster of Ranger, and Delbert Douglas Hunt; brother, Joe Edgar Ramsey; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Leamon and Joy Foster and Jerry and Lillie Bell Day; grandchildren Gloria and Joe Holbrook of Eastland, Brian Carpenter of Ranger, Patricia Smith of Ranger, John Miller and John Simmons of Fort Worth, Joel Hunt, Becky Hunt, Melissa Gledhill, Keith Hunt, Paul Hunt, Wendy Hunt, Jessie Danielle Davis-Cooper USAF Japan, and Mary Carpenter. Great-Grandchildren Thomas Bradley McCool of Fisher, IL, Heather and Lorna Messenger of Eastland, Ashley and Donovan Hunt of Keller, Max Smith of Ranger and Hannah, Justin, Cazet, and Amber Carpenter, Sebastian Aloicious Hunt, James Reed Gledhill, Dusty Douglas Gledhill, Cody Gledhill, and Alex Gledhill of Utah, several nieces and nephews, and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, son Claude Granville Foster, brothers Benny Frank Ramsey and Bill William Ramsey, sister Viola Ramsey Sampson, and infant sisters Susie and Jean Ramsey. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to the donors favorite Children's Charity.
