Mr. Murphy died at 2 a.m., Sunday, Jan. 3, 1982 in Merritt Plaza Nursing Home after a long illness.
A native and lifelong resident of Marion, County, Texas, He was born Aug. 22, 1927 to Arthur Lee Murphy and Louise Wood Murphy. He attended Jefferson and Jackson Community schools in Marion County.
Mr. Murphy served in the U S. Navy during World War II, from 1944-47.
He married Joyce Hearnsberger on Nov. 4, 1959 in Midland.
Mr. Murphy was a heavy equipment engineer employed by Local 819 Operating Engineers in Fort Worth for 10 years. He had previously worked as a driller in oil production.
He was a Member of Lone Oak Baptist Church. He also belonged to Ashland Masonic Lodge No. 1138 and the Scottish Rite.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce Murphy of Jefferson; one son, Kenneth Murphy of Longview; two daughters, Debbie Weber of Whitesboro and Dorinda Lee Murphy of Jefferson; one brother, Aubrey Ray Murphy of Salt Lake City, Utah; and three grandchildren, Kenny Murphy and Taylor Murphy, both of Longview, and Stephanie Weber of Whitesboro.
Pallbearers will be Milton Watts, P.D. Watts, James H. Benson Jr., Allen Scott, Arty L. Wyatt and Doyle Younger. Honorary pallbearers are Roy. Woods, Lloyd Haynes, J.W. Knox and Local 819 Operating Engineers.
