Madison Co Mo Treasurer 1852-54
Hiram Tong and David Carson ran a store at the eastern base of Shepherd Mountain in what was then known as Shepherd Valley. They purchased land from Cyrus Russell and A B Guild then had it surveyed into lots and named the town Ironton. Tong and Carson gave lots to the county which were sold to the public to raise money for the construction of the Iron Co Courthouse.
In 1861 Gen Grant had the Iron Co Sheriff and 10 others arrested for being southern sympathizers. They were held at the H N Tong residence in Arcadia Mo.
