Roy Jane Court Bowlus, 94, passed to the other side on April 11, 2006, at Village Creek Rehabilitation in Lumberton, Texas. She had been a resident there for 8 1/2 years. A graveside service will be held at Forest Lawn Cemetery on Thursday, April 13, 2006, at 2:00 p.m. with the Reverend James Boykin officiating. Visitation will be at the pavilion of the Sabine Tabernacle Church from to 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Mrs. Bowlus was born "in a sand crab hole" in Port Aransas, Texas on February 27, 1912 to Justus Wilson Court and Fannie Catherine Davis Court. Her family moved to Beaumont in 1921 to escape the deadly hurricanes. She attended Fletcher Elementary School, where to her delight, she had elementary music for the first time. She also attended Dick Dowling Jr. High School graduating from Beaumont High School in 1929. She had been a member of Sabine Tabernacle since 1932, where she taught the 3 year old Sunday School class for 18 years and was a true Prayer Warrior for the Body of Christ. Mrs. Bowlus worked as a cashier at the LaSalle Hotel, Fuller's Cafe, Burrell's Newsstand, and Gala Hallmark at Park Dale Mall. She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Claude Frank "Buck" Bowlus, four sisters and two brothers. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Roxanna and Harold Richardson of Beaumont, granddaughter Jane Richardson of El Paso. Happy memories will be shared by many loving nieces, nephews, and friends. The family wants to thank Hospice of Texas for their compassionate care over Mrs. Bowlus for the last four months.
