The untimely sad death of Mrs. H. J. O'Kane occurred Saturday morning at the home in the town of Scott, where she was born Sept. 9. 1891. She was the eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs Thomas Mullikin of Wauzeka.
On Nov. 7, 1910, she was united in marriage to H. J. O'Kane and to the union were born eight children, one dying in infancy. Excepting three years spent in Colorado her life was lived in Crawford county. In 1913 she united with the M. E. church at Mr. Zion and was earnest in her christian experience.
Although not at all rugged, she never spared her strength in help rendered to others, being a kind and helpful neighbor at all times.
Besides the bereaved husband the surviving family consist of five sons and two daughters, Hiram, William, Kenneth, Verle and Clifford, Pearl and Hazel. Besides the parents Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Mullikin, are five sisters, Mrs. Harry Noe of Wauzeka, Mrs. H. Crysinger of Hilton, Wis., Mrs. F. Dunbar of Blair, Wis., Mrs. H. Puckett of Seneca and Fannie at home. With four brothers, Gilbert of Scott, Joe, Albert and Robert at home.
Many friends and neighbors mourn her loss. All of her sisters and brothers were present at the funeral.
Never a sigh for the cares that she
bore for us,
Never a thought of the joys that
flew by,
Her one regret that she couldn't
do more for us,
Thoughtless and selfish her
master were we.
Oh the long nights that she came
at our call to us,
Oh, the soft touch of her hands
on our brow!
Oh, the long years that she gave
up her all, to us!
Oh, how we yearn for her gentle-
ness now!
Slave to her babies! Yes that was
the way of her.
Counting her greatest of services
small!
Mother--The sweetest and fair-
est of all.
The funeral, an unusually large one, was held at the residence at 11 a. m. on Monday. Rev. Satchjen of Boscobel and Rev. Hurlburt of Mt. Zion conducted the services jointly. Interment was made on the family lot in the Mt Zion Cemetery.
