Walter G. Harness, 83, of Lookout Valley, passed away on Monday, July 7, 2003, after a brief battle with lymphoma. He was retired from TVA and was a member of the Laborers Local #846. He was a decorated military veteran with the 5 th Infantry Division Company M of the U.S. Army. During World War II, he served in the battle of Normandy and many other battles. He attended Lookout Valley Church of the Nazarene. He was the son of the late Adam and Angeline Anderson Harness, and also was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Duane Estill. He is survived by his wife, Thelma Harness of Lookout Valley; one daughter, Judy Estill of Chattanooga; two sons, James Harness and Rick Kennedy of Knoxville; four grandchildren, Craig and Lori Estill of Ta mpa, Fla., Darren Estill of Chattanooga, Jason and Pilar Harness and Justin and Karrie Harness, all of Chattanooga; and two great-grandchildren, Lane Estill and Josh Bates of Ta mpa. Also a special brother-in-law and wife, James H. Patterson and Lois of Jasper, Tenn.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home with the Rev. Don Hawkins and the Rev. John Andrus officiating. Interment will follow in Chattanooga National Cemetery with military honors. The family will receive friends today from 2-8 p.m. at the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home. Ralph Buckner Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
