Carl Eugene "Corky" Tatum died on March 19, 2009, at his home. Services were held on Sunday, March 22 at the Barn Church in Hamilton with Pastor Marvin Andrews and Pastor John Beckling officiating. Burial was in Oakwood Cemetery.

He was born July 4, 1931, in Hamilton, the son of Ernest Elmo and Ona Dooley Tatum.

He graduated from Hamilton High School in 1950. Mr. Tatum served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, stationed in Fort Hood, and Fort Belvior, Va.

He married Evelyn Merle Tune on Nov. 4, 1954 and they had one daughter, Carla Jean.

He was married to Ann Mae Searfoss on Dec. 21, 1963. They had one son, Joe Edward, and one daughter, Evae Janette.

After his military service, Corky joined his father and brother in Tatum Bros. Plumbing and Drilling Co. He then became a salesman for Aermotor Windmill Co. for a number of years. Following that, he ran the Texaco station on Main Street in Hamilton. He retired in 1992, after 17 years with Alexander Moulding Mill.

Over his lifetime, Corky enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, skating, dominoes, golf and having fun with his many friends. He was a member of the Lions Club.

Mr. Tatum was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Marjorie Tatum Rainer, and his brother, Forrest Strailey Tatum.

Survivors include his wife; his daughter, Carla and husband John Jones; son, Joe Tatum; daughter Janette and husband Dean Logan; grandsons, Chance and Aaron Logan; granddaughters, Kate Jones, Hannah Jones and Angie Logan; sister-in-law, Louise Tatum; brother-in-law, J.W. Rainer and many, many friends and extended family.

Mr. Tatum made friends easily and had a wonderful gift of making people laugh and feel at ease. His heart had a big soft spot for all God's creatures.

Pallbearers were Toby Logan, Chance Logan, Mason Bullard, Joe Sommerfeld, Jimmy Sommerfeld and Dale Sommerfeld. Honorary Pallbearers were Billy Cole, Joe Dalton, Cart Jones and Harry Bullard.
