DAVID W. RESLER, 94, of Remer, MN died Thursday, June 23, 2011 at the Minnesota Veteran's Home in Silver Bay, MN.
David was born in 1916 to Clarence and Louese (Basset) Resler at White Bear Lake, MN. He married Verna Nicklason in 1939. David served in the U. S. Navy during World War II from January 1943 through November 1945, serving overseas in the South Pacific. He and his brother, John Resler, owned and operated two hardware stores—one in Remer and one in Hill City. David raised his family on a farm west of Remer for 19 years, then moved to Portage Lake where he lived until his wife died in 1976. He moved to Naples, Florida where he worked for Maas Brother Department Store until moving back to Remer in 1984 where he built a home on his property at Mabel Lake.
David married Mary Gilmer in 1986. They lived at Mabel Lake during the summer and at Naples, Florida in the winter. In 1993, he built a home on Pokegama Lake and lived there until moving back to Remer in 1997. David was a member of "The Shepherd's Chapel".
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Verna; one brother, Charles Resler; a sister, Ruth Erickson; and a grandson, Mike Resler.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Gilmer; two sons, Thomas (Judy) Resler, Lone Rock, WI and William (Susan) Resler, Cumberland City, TN; two daughters, Barbara (Eddie) Chenervert, North Branch, MN and Lois Resler, Westcliffe, CO; one brother, John (Virginia) Resler, White Bear Lake, MN; 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren.
Visitation will be on Monday, June 27th at 1:00 p.m. until the 2:00 funeral service at Rowe Funeral Home in Grand Rapids, MN with Full Military Honors. Rev. Jay Pepin will officiate. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in Longville, MN at a later date.
