Betty Elizabeth Grooms of Fort Scott, Kan., died Monday, April 3, 2006, in Fort Scott. She was 78.
Grooms was born April 5, 1927, in Picher to Ira and Flossie (Smith) Sharp. She previously lived in Miami.
She was a homemaker and a member of Northeast Baptist Church in Miami.
She was married to Virgil Hilburn. He preceded her in death in 1962. She later married Bob Grooms. He preceded her in death in 1968. She was also preceded in death by one son, Monty Hilburn; her parents; two stepsons, James Hilburn and Steve Grooms, and one granddaughter, Laura Jefferson.
Survivors include two sons, Larry Hilburn of Fort Scott and Ed Hilburn of Nevada, Mo.; one brother, Lawrence Sharp of Miami; two sisters, Ruth Severs of Joplin, Mo., and Marie Vaughn of Theodosia, Mo., five grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Paul Thomas Funeral Home in Picher with the Rev. Ed McFall officiating. Burial will be in Seneca Cemetery in West Seneca.
