Howell Harris (1714-1773) the great revivalist was born at Trefeca just out from Talgarth, Wales. Howell became a teacher then later his sensitivities led him to preach. He was not ordained Into the slate church; thus he could not preach in their churches, so Howell, in Talgarth, would preach from his parent's grave in the churchyard at SI. Gwendolyn's. His preaching would gather more crowds than would go into the church building. Hi. very successful preaching over Wales and beyond led to his being called "the John Wesley of Wales." At the close of his life, Howell had calculated that he had traveled more than one hundred and forty thousand miles mostly in Wales.
