Romeo's story is all about miracles. He entered my life in 1995 on a day I wasn't supposed to be at my office. I found him on the side of the road, a mature alley cat with bloody feet and bloody, raw, hairless patches on his body. He was crying and I thought he had been dipped in acid. Diagnosed with FIV, they said it was hopeless. After 6 months of meticulous medical and home care, we became hopeful that Romeo might survive. He continued a special vitamin therapy for many years. He had defied the odds and his disease went into permanent remission. Romeo especially loved his "brother" Blondie. The two big cats, all fluffed up and squinty-eyed, would frequently engage in mock fights, like sumo wrestlers. All was silent except for their clicking teeth as they "snapped" at each other while circling for the attack and then the sound of them tumbling. It was incredibly graceful. Never once did they hurt each other. Romeo could answer 3 questions in his sultry masculine voice: Who am I? "Maahhh"; When do you want to eat, Romeo? "NOWWW!!!"; and Do you love me? "No" ..Yes you do!!, "NOoohh!!" He became sick because of the pet food scandal involving melamine and died at home on Christmas Eve survived by Blondie, Kiwi, Tsunami and Wiley, all of whom loved him.
