Mr. D.L. Garrett Sr. age 86 passed away at Warren Hospital in Hazel Park, Michigan on Monday, June 13, 2011 following a brief illness. Mr. Garrett was born on April 5, 1924 in Hiawassee, GA., the son of the late Lazrus Boss Garrett and the late Sophia Ledford Garrett. After receiving his high school diploma, D. L. served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He also received the WWII Victory Medal. Mr. Garrett was of the Baptist Faith.
Surviving Mr. Garrett are his loving wife of forty nine years, Lillian Mason Garrett of Hazel Park, MI., sons and daughters in law D.L. Jr and Gloria Garrett of MI., Charles and Shirley Garrett of Blairsville, Sid and Barbara Garrett of Blairsville, and Mike and Barbara Garret of Crawfordville, GA., stepson, Woodrow Marcum and a step daughter, Darlene Marcum both of Hazel Park, MI., sisters, Faye Barfield of Douglas, GA. and Dallas Walls of Hiawassee, sister and brother in law Magnus and Loy Hamby of Blairsville, Many other relatives and friends also survive.
Graveside services were held on Friday June 17, 2011 at 2:30pm from the New Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Carroll Holbrooks officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the North GA. Honor Guard . The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers: Steve Ballard, Terry Collins, Johnny Hamby, Jacob Queen, S.K. Queen and William Mason. Internment will follow at the New Harmony Baptist Cemetery. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home on Friday from 12 – 2:00pm.
