Davis Whelchel (1807-1876), a son of John "Wilkie" Whelchel (c.1780-1839), is buried at Highland Cemetery, Hamilton County, Indiana.

Davis Whelchel, Sr., (1752-1833), who fought in the Revolutionary War, married Nancy Barnes. They moved from South Carolina to Tennessee and then Indiana. Davis Whelchel, Sr., is buried at the Whelchel Family Cemetery in Hamilton County, Indiana.

John "Wilkie" Whelchel (c.1780-1839), was a son of Nancy (nee Barnes) and Davis Whelchel, Sr., and was the father of Davis Whelchel (1807-1876), who is buried at Highland Cemetery.

Davis Whelchel (1807-1876) was first married to Mary Mock and later to widow Isabella (nee Kingery) Alexander. Davis was a son of John "Wilkie" Whelchel and a grandson of Nancy (nee Barnes) and Davis Whelchel, Sr.

Davis Whelchel (1807-1876), who is shown in the 1850 census as "Davis Wilkie", was a son of John Whelchel (1780-1839) who also went by the name John Wilkie. Deed records show that the Fall Creek Township, Hamilton County, property of John Whelchel was sold on February 22, 1840, to his son Davis Whelchel.
