Anna Kruse Rites Held
Aged Resident of This Community Dies Christmas Morning Following a Stroke
Mrs. Anna M. Kruse died at her home on Christmas morning after suffering a severe stroke a few days before. She lived to be eighty years old.
The daughter of Henry and Maria Struve, she was born Sept. 12, 1861, in Port Byron, Ill. She came with her parents to Mt. Auburn in the spring of 1867 and settled on a farm two miles west of Mt. Auburn. She was married to John F. Kruse March 2, 1887, and they farmed in Bruce township. Mr. Kruse died June 28, 1915, and Mrs. Kruse continued to farm until 1935 when she retired to La Porte City. She was the last of a family of twelve children. She was baptized when a young girl in the Lutheran church.
She is survived by five children: George, Henry, Dora M., Wm. J. and Mrs. Elsie Thede, all in and around La Porte City. August F. died May 11, 1921, and one grandchild, Donald Kruse, died Nov. 19, 1933. There are also nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral was Saturday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Barnhart and Johannsen funeral home with burial in West View cemetery. Rev. W.D. Winter officiated.
The casket bearers were Henry Miller, Frank Struve, Clad Struve, James Hill, Harry Gehlsen and John Drews.
Korene Stahnke and Mrs. Harold Stahnke sang selections, accompanied by Marlys Stahnke.
The out-of-town relatives and friends who attended were Mr. and Mrs. Harry Worden, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Gehlsen, from Iona, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Henry Lassen, Laura Struve and Frank Struve, from Vinton; Clad Struve from Cedar Rapids; Chris Kinsell and Mrs. Minnie Mealhaus, from Garrison; Mr. and Mrs. John Drews, Mr. and Mrs. Ernie Lassen and Henry Hilmer, from Dysart; Mr. and Mrs. John Krebs, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Miller, Mr. and Mrs Roy Runyan and Rean and Leone Pott, from Waterloo; Mr. and Mrs. Clare Runyan and Floyd Runyan, from Cedar Falls; Mrs. John Struve, Raymond and Harold Struve, James and Elsie Hill, Mrs. Harold Smalley, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Struve, from Mt. Auburn.
