He enlisted as Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas on May 28, 1943. Inactive from May 28, 1943 to June 4, 1943.

Did basic training in Combat Engineers at Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri and in September 21, 1943 transferring to the 3rd Engineer Special Brigade (Amphibious Engineers). He received orders to ship overseas and left the United States on November 23, 1943 landing in New Guinea (Milne Bay) in December 11, 1943.

He departed homeward from Tokyo Bay on November 18th, 1945 and was separated from service at Jefferson Barracks, St. Louis, Missouri on December 15, 1945. Honorably Discharged.

Personal Note

My grandfather refused to talk about his years at war. If anyone asked him a question he would simply say he didn't want to talk about it. I remember at Thanksgiving and Christmas grandma always made a ham especially for grandpa because he wouldn't eat turkey. He said it was given to the soldiers too often during the war to eat and he couldn't stand the taste anymore.

He was a Union Painter by trade. He was a very accomplished artist.
