GREENSBORO — Mrs. Rebecca Sharpe Black, 93, died on Friday, January 11, 2008, at Moses Cone Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, January 14, at Alamance Presbyterian Church, 4000 Presbyterian Road. Rev. Dr. Keith Uffman and Rev. Carl Parsons will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Black was born on March 30, 1914, to Arthur Edward and Ethel Maie Sharpe. She graduated from Greensboro Senior High School in 1932. She worked at Myers Department Store in downtown Greensboro, and from 1966 until 1979 she was a baker in the cafeteria at Smith High School, specializing in cakes and cookies. She was a life-long resident of the Alamance community and lived for many years in Lynwood Lakes. Mrs. Black loved her family and her flowers and vegetables and she enjoyed sharing what she grew with friends and neighbors.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her loving husband of 59 years, W.T. "Casey" Black.

She is survived by her son, Tom Black and wife, Bobbie of Greensboro; daughters, Sylvia Black Whitworth and husband, Wesley of Randleman, Janice Black Ewell of Newport, N.C.; sister, Lena Maie Smith and husband, Hase of Greensboro; grandchildren, Chuck Whitworth and wife, Teresa of Greensboro, Vickie Whitworth Long and husband, Jeff of Morganton, N.C., Susan Black Holt and husband, David of Raleigh, Casey Cahill Black and fiancée, Laura Doyle of Wilmington, N.C.; great- grandchildren, Britney and Kendal Whitworth, Sarah and Samuel Long; step-great- grandchildren, Jesse, Joe and Jordan Ewell. She is also survived by her special friend, Ruby Cahill.

The family will receive friends at 10 a.m. on Monday, January 14, in the Gathering Room at Alamance Presbyterian Church, prior to the service.

Her family extends a special thank you to Len and Willie Holder for loving dedication to their mother and dad. The family also thanks the special caregivers at Heritage Greens, Vera Springs Assisted Living, Moses Cone Hospital, especially the Palliative Care Unit, and neighbors and faithful friends at Alamance Presbyterian Church.
