Marie Grice Young was an accomplished musician and was once employed as music instructor to Miss Ethel Roosevelt, daughter of Theodore Roosevelt. While on board the Carpathia, she began a narrative of the sinking of the Titanic which was later published in the National Magazine, October 1912.

She was the sister in law of Amazon Victoria "Amy" Dixon Young.
