Death Claims Joseph Sellers

RIGBY, Dec. 3 – Joseph Lehi Sellers, 82, died Dec. 1 at Salt Lake City, Utah, where he had been visiting with his sons and daughters this fall.

He was born March 29, 1879 in Harrison County, Iowa, the son of Allen Davenport Sellers and Sarah Jane Coon.

Part of the family moved to Utah, and on Jan. 19, 1898 he was united in marriage to Sarah D. Worthen. This marriage was solemnized Nov. 29, 1922 in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. To this union were born six daughters and four sons.

As a young man he followed the carpentry trade, working extensively in Utah and Idaho until in 1905 when he moved his family to Idaho. Here he pioneered in the Menan district where he made his home and engaged in farming until he suffered a broken back in an accident in 1918. He spent the remainder of his life confined to his room. He has made his home close to Mrs. Lucy Beck and Allen Sellers for the past few years. Only recently while visiting in Salt Lake City was he confined to his bed.

His wife and three children preceded him in death. Surviving are the following sons and daughters: Mrs. Maida Brown, Kaysville, Utah; Mrs. Aleen Purrington, Centerville, Utah; Mrs. Lucy Beck and H. Allen Sellers of Rigby; Kenneth W. Sellers, Cecil A. Sellers and Mrs. Belva Locker of Salt Lake City. Forty three grandchildren and thirty three great grandchildren; one sister, Diadema Brown of Iowa.

Funeral services will be held at the Eckersell Funeral Home, Friday, at 1 p.m. where friends may call until time of service.

Bishop Edwin H. Lee of the Rigby LDS Ward will officiate and burial will be in the Cedar Butte Cemetery under the direction of the Eckersell Funeral Home. [no photo]
