Sister Francis de Paul, Noted Pharmacist

Sister Francis de Paul Hanlon, head of the pharmacy department of the Halifax Infirmary since its opening in 1933, died yesterday morning while engaged in her duties. Born in Boston, she entered the Sisters of Charity in 1917 and except for a teaching assignment in Lowell, Mass., from 1925 to 1928, worked in Halifax ever since.

An active member of many hospital organizations in Canada and the United States, Sister Francis de Paul was widely known as a teacher and specialist in her profession. In the early years of St. Vincent College, she taught chemistry in that department. For years she taught materica medica at the medical school of Dalhousie University and was also a member of the faculty of the Maritime College of Pharmacy. She was a charter member of the Atlantic Provinces branch of the Canadian Hospital Pharmacy Society and its secretary for the present year. She was a past president of the Maritime Catholic Hospital Association.

Her many contacts, professional and charitable, during 25 years of service at the Halifax Infirmary won her a wide circle of friends. To them and especially to the Sisters of Charity and her associates at the Infirmary by who she was highly esteemed, her sudden death has come as a shock and a great loss.

Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Mass Thursday from the Halifax Infirmary.

Internment will be in Mount Olivet cemetery.
