Leesburg, FL: Donald Lee Whittaker, 72, died June 22, 2011 after a courageous battle with cancer. Don was born in Berkshire, on February 9 1939, the first son of Riley and Charlotte (Fogle) Whittaker.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Barbara (Rice) Whittaker, three children, Janine Shaffer (Bo) Brill of Arnold, MD, Wendy (Dave) Albertini of Rockville MD and Jeff (Kim) Whittaker of New Windsor, Md.: Grandchildren Nathan, Emily, Gregory and Joseph; his father, Riley of Owego; brothers Robert (Diana) of Brooktondale, and Dennis of Owego: many cousins, nieces and nephews. His mother, Charlotte, and his son-in-law Tom Shaffer predeceased him.

Don retired after many years of service with IBM, largely working on the national space program in various US locations. After retirement, Don & Barbara located in Leesburg where he avidly pursued his passion for golf with the Plantation Residents Golf Club.

An internment service was held on Monday, June 27, 2011 in Evergreen Cemetery, Berkshire
