He married Antoinette "Net" Kunkel November 5, 1936. She passed away December 16, 2000.
He was Manager of Gus Doerner Sporting Goods Store in Jasper-retired in 1985.
Memberships include: St. Joseph Catholic Church, K of C, Die Hard Cubs Fan Club since 1932.
He was a longtime Indiana high school and Big Ten Conference basketball official. He officiated three state championship games including the legendary 1954 Muncie-Milan state basketball championship game.
A member of the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame, he was a member of the 1934 JHS state finals basketball team, and class of 1934.
In 1999 he received the JHS Distinguished Alumni Award. He was an avid gardener, sports fan and a published writer.
Surviving: 4 daughters-Mrs. Robert (Judy) Calley of Sebastian FL., Jane Birge of Beaumont TX., Mrs. Rick (Betty) Anderson of Muncie IN., and Mrs. Jeff (Kathy) Eckerle of Jasper.

Visitation will be held from 1:00-7:00 P.M. Sunday at the Becher & Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper. There will be a parish Rosary at 4:00 P.M. Sunday at the funeral home.
Funeral service will be held at 9:30 A.M. Monday October 6, 2008 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper with burial to follow at Fairview Cemetery in Jasper.
