Son of William and Sarah Harding. Served two terms in House of Representatives (1853-1855 and 1881-1882). Served two terms in Senate (1875-1876 and 1877-1878). During this time, worked for passage of bill to create 11th county of Robertson, established August 1, 1867. Donated the land for the first church of Kentontown, erected in the early 1840s. First Judge of Robertson County. Great-grandfather of Mary Ann Watson Henson and Elizabeth Harding Taylor.

Plaque erected to honor Duncan by his great-great-granddaughter, Nancy Taylor North, and her husband, Charles W. North, on April 9, 1995.
