Celeste Reed was born to John & Martha (Severns) Reed in Fulton Co, Illinois. She married Edward Swinehart there in 1866. By 1870 they were in Jasper, Missouri, and not long afterward had moved west to Montgomery County, Kansas, where Celeste was recorded on the 1875 state census with sons John Milo and Elsworth. By 1880 she was in the Cherokee Nation along with her parents and a third son, Frank.

What happened to Edward Swinehart is unknown, but by 1900 Celeste is recorded as a widow and had the last name Williams. No other trace of her second husband has been found. The story in the family is that he was caught out somewhere by outlaws of some variety and murdered, but there are no details.

Known as Grandma Williams in turn of the century Calvin, she left to live with her brother Frank in western Oklahoma. When she died in 1915 the Calvin paper reports she was interred at Calvin Cemetery.
