Wayne J. "Chief" Story, 57, of Woodford, died Thursday, Feb. 28, 2002 in Woodford. Born in Florida, he had retired at the rank of Chief in the Navy, having served in the submarine service. He was active with the Civil War Battlefield Trust and had been an EMT with the Ladysmith Vol. Rescue Squad. Survivors include his wife Mary Story; a son, James B. Story of Maputo, Mozambique; a daughter, Elaine Helmly of Moncks Corner, S.C.; a step-son, Brian Shallenberger of Beaverdam; a step-daughter, Marsha Sirks of Fredericksburg; two brothers, James Story of Pass Christian, Mississippi and Charles Story of Charleston, S.C.; two grandchildren and five step-grandchildren. A funeral service will be Tues., March 5, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of the STORKE FUNERAL HOME, BOWLING GREEN. The family will receive friends at the funeral home, Monday, 7:00-9:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ladysmith Rescue Squad or the Civil War Battlefield Trust.
