He was born November 14, 1901, in Aurora, Nebraska to Eric and Clara Anderson Berggren. At age one, his family moved to Greeley, Colorado. When he was 7-years-old, the family moved to a farm north of Idaho Falls on Hitt Road. He often spoke fondly of these early years growing up. In the home, the family spoke Swedish, with both parents emigrating from Sweden. Holidays, especially Christmas, was remembered as a time when the family's ten children all got busy and made Christmas gifts for each other. Winter days were often spent skiing over high drifts of snow or skating the frozen creek.
On June 26, 1942, he married Zelda Vercler in Idaho Falls. He served in the Army Air Corp at Jefferson Barracks, Missouri and Scott Field in Illinois. During the depression he and his brother mined for gold in Nevada. He spent most of his years as a carpenter, building numerous homes and buildings in the Idaho Falls area. He loved to work hard, and was always generous with time helping others. Family and friends knew him as a man who always spoke kindly of others; and who appreciated a solid handshake.
He was a member of the Alliance Covenant Church. His hobbies included fly fishing, sketching and oil painting, rock collecting and lapidary work, and building beautiful items from wood in his workshop. And he would close each day by reading from the family bible.
