Martha Allene Ridley Hughes, 88, of Ringgold, GA, passed away on Monday, June 20, 2011, at her residence.
A native of Dalton, GA, she was a lifelong resident of the Dalton and Ringgold, GA areas, and was a member of Keith Baptist Church in Ringgold. She was a golf enthusiast, woodcrafter,and gardener.
Allene’s family was the center of her life.
She is preceded in death by her husband Ivan Elby Hughes; parents Claude and Bessie Messimer Ridley; sister Lillian Ridley Powell; 3 brothers -- Seth Ridley, William Ridley, and Larry Ridley; and grandson Terry Dale Taylor.
She is survived by her 4 children -- Austine Bowman (Ricky) of Ringgold, GA, Charles Hughes (Nina) of Ringgold, GA, Janie Lockhart (Bobby) of Chattanooga, TN, and Gary Hughes of Ringgold, GA; 2 sisters -- Jeanette Ridley Cloer of Cleveland, TN, and Lena Ridley Williams of Cleveland, TN; 3 brothers -- Elmer Ridley of Cartersville, GA, Kenneth Ridley of Beaverdale, GA, and Robert Ridley of Warner Robbins, GA; special friends -- Judy Clark Hodges of Crowley, TX, Don Mahoney of Sacramento, CA, and Richard Petty of Ringgold, GA; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held on June 23, 2011, in the funeral home chapel, with Ken Pitts and Dewayne Hill officiating. Interment followed at Keith Baptist Church Cemetery.
Arrangements were by Wilson Funeral Home Wallis-Stewart Chapel, Ringgold, GA.
