Obituary of Fred Adkins, husband of Alida Richmond

Fred Adkins, son of Geo. B. and Susan E. Adkins, was born in Woodman Twp., Jan. 10, 1860, died at the home of his son Carl near Webster, Wis., Nov 18, 1924, aged 64 years, 10 months and 8 days. When a few monrhs old his parents moved to Mt. Ida township near Werley. He lived in that vicinity until 35 years old. Nine years were spent at Blue River. Twenty years he lived in Crawford county near Barnum and Petersburg. The last eight months were spent at Webster.

Oct. 28, 1879 he was married to Miss Lucretia Woodruff of Fennimore; one child, a daughter, was born to them, who died in infancy. The young wife died Oct 28, 1891. A few years later he was married July 28, 1886 to Miss Alida Richmond of Woodman. To them were born seven sons and four daughters., all of whom are living except one son, Ivan, who was drowned in 1914 at the age of eight years. All the children reside in Wisconsin: Carl G. at Webster; Mrs. Ina Marsh at Soldiers Grove; Frank C and Vernon R. at Excelsior; Fred Jr. at Patch Grove; Mrs. Edith Koepp at Eastman; Nathan W. at Lancaster; Mrs. Marcia Rice at Madison; Chester M. and Lila E with the mother. Three sisters live in South Dakota: Mrs. Clara Farris and Mrs. Parsley of Flandreau, and Mrs. Lizzie Watson of Chamberlain. The eight brothers are John of Oklahoma; George, Henry and Amos in the state of Washington; Lewis of Minneapolis; Enoch and Nathan in Grant Co., and Levi of Soldiers Grove. There are also twenty grandchildren.

Oct. 13 he suffered a paralytic stroke on the right side. On the evening of the 17th a second stroke banished all hope of recovery, and at 12:10 a.m. he passed away. The end was very sudden, although expected. The body was brought to Boscobel by the wife and daughter Lila. Funeral was held at Mt. Zion church, Rev. Hurlburt officiating. Remains were laid beside the little son and grandson who preceded him. It seems incredible that so many relatives and friends could gather on so short a notice.

The pains of death are past,
Labor and sorrow cease,
Life's long warfare closed at last,
His soul has found sweet peace.

Frederick Carl Adkins, Sr.. is buried between his grandson Carl Adkins and his son Ivan Thayer Adkins❤
