Clara LaVerne Gray-Bruce passed from this life to the next life on June 19, 2011 at 7 p.m. unexpectedly from a massive heart attack in Sparks Hospital.

Clara LaVerne Gray-Bruce was born on July 22, 1933 to Joe and Ivy Mangrum at Yanush, Oklahoma. She attended Buffalo Valley High School, where she and her teammates took the State Championship in basketball.

She married Walter Calvin Gray on May 18, 1950 who lived in Albion, Oklahoma. She moved to California with him and they settled in Napa Valley. She completed High School at Napa Senior High. Walter and her were blessed with two children, a son, Larry Stephen Gray and a daughter, Connie Jannice Gray.

Clara LaVerne went to college after having her two children and receive her teaching degree from San Francisco State College in San Francisco, California. She taught school for 31 years.

She was a great mother, wife and a fantastic cook. Her teaching skills were to be emulated. She loved teaching her students and her students loved her.

After her husband, Walter passed away on March 2, 1991. She married Robert LaRue Bruce on October 26, 2000 in Reno, Nevada. By marrying Robert L. Bruce she often commented that she finally got the extended family she wanted, complete with sisters, nephews and nieces.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Walter Calvin Gray, her daughter, Connie Jannice Gray-Smith and her grandson Jason Smith.

She is survived by her husband Robert L. Bruce, her brother, Clifford Mangrum, son, Larry Stephen Gray, and four grandsons, Paul Joseph Smith, Brett Douglas Gray, Kasey Cassidy Gray, and Walter Calvin Gray II along with four great granddaughters, Courtney Gray, Breann Gray, Kaylee Gray and Megan Gray.

Pallbearers for the service will be Paul J. Smith, Brett D. Gray, Kasey C. Gray, Walter C. Gray II, Adam Shaw, Daooin Shaw. Honorary will be former classmates.

Services will be held Saturday, June 25, 2011, 2 p.m. at the Yanush Assembly of God with Rusty Shaw officiating. Interment will follow at the Cupco Cemetery under the direction of Talihina Funeral Home.
