She was raised in the Bahama area, and attended schools in Orange and Durham counties, graduating from Mangum High School. Mrs. Smith worked for many years as a seamstress making window treatments for Belk's Dept. Store. Ruby was the oldest living member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church. She was a marvelous caregiver, utterly devoted to her nieces and nephews, all of whom became the children she never had.
Ruby is survived by her many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband David B. Smith; and brothers and sisters, Luther, Robert "Rob" , Fuller, and Bryant Walker; and Emma Long, Pearl Walker, Eunice Garrett, Laura Smith, Eva McKinney and Frances Briggs.
A graveside service will be held 1:00 PM Monday in Maplewood Cemetery, with the Rev. Bob Wallace officiating.
