Mumford's great-grandson gave me the dates on him, which the U.S. Veterans record confirms. According to the gr- grandson, Mumford lived in and died in Collingsworth County, Texas which is about seven miles from where he is buried in OK. Texola, OK was where their post office was. In March 1917, Mumford and Tennessee went to New Mexico to visit. On the 1920 Census in Portales, Rooselvet County, New Mexico, he is listed as a widower, living with his granddaughter, Dora Adele (Wood)Ligon, who is married to Samuel Brown Ligon. Mumford returned to Texas on July 1, 1925. His Confederate Pension, which he received through Texas was stopped because you had to be a citizen of Texas to receive it. It was finally started back in November 1925. It was confusing because he had to receive his mail through the Texola, OK post office. He was blind during this time and his son, James Thomas Neely had to write the letters for him. J.W. Blackburn(husband of his sister, Delilah) and Sam Allen of Franklin, Williamson County, Tennessee were his witnesses that he had served in Tennessee in the unit which he said he fought. His grave is on the U.S. Veteran Gravesite list. He served in the 11th Regiment, Tennessee Cavalry Holman's Battalion, Tennessee Partisan Rangers.

Mumford married Tennessee Sophronia Rountree on Dec. 15, 1853 at Williamson County, Tennessee.
