Obituary.
The funeral of Father Sabin our much honored and beloved oldest fellow citizen was solemnized at the home of his son on the east part of this city (Sycamore, IL) yesterday noon and the remains were taken to rest forever in the old cemetery at Georgia Vermont. Rev. Alvah Sabin was a very remarkable man. He was born at Georgia Vt., Oct. 23, 1793, began preaching there at the age of nineteen and remained pastor of the Baptist church at that place fifty-three years. He served as representative to the Vermont Legislature 13 years, was Secretary of State several years, was Probate Judge eight years was elected to Congress in 1853 and served two terms.
In 1819 he married Anna Mears, of Georgia, by whom he had six children of whom three are now living. She died in 1833 and he afterwards married Susan Marsh of Hartford, Vt., who died in DeKalb (Illinois) in 1874
He retained a clear, powerful mind to the very last, and served very acceptably in the pulpit during the last years of his life. He was saintly in disposition and his friends say he never spoke a cross word. His funeral sermon was preached by his nephew, Rev. A. S. Hobart of Cincinnati. His death resulted from a fall which broke his hip.
