Because of her courageous fight to live and the forensic evidence collected because of that fight, her killer was caught, and the murder of another young girl (Rima Traxler) years earlier was also solved. It is thought that Kara's killer may well be responsible for as many as 70 deaths in the Pacfic Northwest. Kara is another reason for the enactment of Megan's Law, and Amber Alerts regarding missing children.
